Childcare vouchers news: Two-child families ''see full-time work as pointless''
There may be a need for more employers to offer childcare vouchers after a survey revealed the financial burden many two-child families are facing.
Some 40 per respondents to the Aviva Cost of the Sibling poll said that there is little point in both parents working full-time after the birth of a second baby due to the cost of childcare.
More than half (57 per cent) of those who do not return to work after their second child enters the world do so to spend more time bringing up their offspring.
Meanwhile, 45 per cent of these people take a five-year sabbatical to ensure their little one is raised by the person they know best.
Head of protection marketing at Aviva Louise Colley remarked: "As any parent will know, children have a huge financial impact on a family - and this can sometimes mean double trouble when a sibling comes along."
However, those who are currently receiving childcare vouchers may find their choice of provider limited in the coming years.
Charity the Child Poverty Action Group pointed out that those who are made redundant are likely to care for their kids themselves, which could lead to nurseries closing due to unsustainable headcounts.
