Two-thirds of workers ''break social networking rules''
Around two-thirds of employees fail to adhere to their company''s policy on the use of social networking sites, meaning a change could be required to workplace communications.
A report released by Cisco Systems indicated that unsupported sites and devices were being used by staff despite concerns over cyber-security.
One of the main complaints was that managers were unable to recruit and retain workers under the age of 30 without access to social networking sites.
More than half of the IT professionals quizzed for the research listed social networking as being among the top three security threats to their organisation.
Fred Kost, director of security solutions at Cisco, said: "As the lines between personal and business computing increasingly blur, it is becoming clear that employees are going to use social networking and personal devices whether permitted or not."
Last week, an expert from Negative Consulting said that businesses were missing out on a marketing opportunity by not having a blog attached to their website.
